Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

When you register a CV with TrackMyCV, we generate a unique invisible "Tracking Image" for you to insert into your document. Then whenever recruiters or potential employers open your file, the tracking image is loaded and records when, where and how often your document is opened.

Which document types are supported?

We currently support the following file types:

  • .doc / .docx
  • .xls / .xlsx
  • .ppt / .pptx
  • .rtf
  • .html

Do firewalls block the tracking image?

Not unless they've been specifically instructed to. TrackMyCV has been tested with firewalls such as ZoneAlarm, Windows Firewall and Symantec Client Firewall, none of which raised any alerts or blocked access to the image.

Can I compare different versions of my resume?

Yes! You can track an unlimited number of documents with TrackMyCV and easily compare the results.

I added the tracking image to my resume, but no visits are showing up. What could be wrong?

This could be for a number of reasons:

  • Have you inserted the image correctly?

When inserting the image, it's important to add it as a linked image, rather than an embedded one. A linked image will be downloaded from the server every time your document is loaded, an embedded one won't.

  • Have you tested the document on another computer?

We don't record views when you open the document on your own computer (or any other on the same IP Address). This is to prevent viewings from being recorded when you're editing your documents.

  • Is the computer you're testing on connected to the internet?

Viewing data can only be collected when theres an active internet connection.
